Livermore: Bruno Canziani Park, Charlotte Ave.

5700 Charlotte Ave. at Flagg Lane, Livermore Map

A shallow three-acre bowl at Bruno Canziani Park, above, is a green playfield in summer. Click for larger view, showing inlet in left distance. In winter, the field becomes a shallow pond that slows storm runoff, filters pollutants, and lets rain soak into soil.

Outlet structure, below, keeps the bowl from flooding in large storms (City of Livermore photo).

Below, Charlotte Avenue, separating the park from homes highlighted in another section, is curbless. Polluted road runoff flows to grassy swales planted with no-mow red fescue. The swales filter the runoff and allow it to filter into soil. Underdrains prevent flooding.
