Clayton: Pine Hollow

Pardi Lane off Pine Hollow Road, Clayton Map

At Pine Hollow Estates, a small subdivision of traditional single-family homes, slightly sunken planted areas serve as biofilters, reducing peak flows during storms and filtering pollutants. Narrow streets with limited parking reduce the overall paved area, another way to lessen peak storm flows.

Below, a cul-de-sac with a sunken planted biofilter also serves as a neighborhood recreation area. Swales along backyard fences, not shown, drain to this area.

Below left, planted areas with drought-tolerant vegetation and underdrains filter and slow runoff on a slope. Below right, drain and cleanout reveal that these are not ordinary planting beds.
Below, street runoff flows to biofilter and then storm drains.
